The Sydbank Foundation's apprenticeship grant of DKK 15,000 goes to a student at Unika Danmark
After having started on 2023, we look back on 2022 – a year that runned fast.
2022 started with the demolition of a family house, next to one of our production halls. The parcel on which the house was located was to be used to realize a plan from 2021 to build a new productionhall, which will form the framework for a more streamlined production, with well-thought-out layout and capacity. The first sod for the new hall was taken in April and the hall was ready for use at the end of the year. For the sake of ongoing production, the relocation of the large injection molding machines will first start in week two 2023.
In January, Anders Andersen took up a newly created position as head of finance. Anders supports the executive board and the board and elevates the finance function to meet the future plan for the company's growth. A newly created position, as factory manager in the composite department, was in August filled in by Kim Lynggaard, who will support the management with production overview and contribute with increased management of Unika's production of plastic items as well as start new workflow initiatives. New exciting initiatives are already underway, and we have a goal of even more in 2023. Find the two new employees in contact.
During the year, we increased our focus on minimizing waste in production. By involving the employees, we have managed to send as much as 31 tonnes of scrap packaging for recycling. Introduced procedures also ensure that failure items, which can be reused, instead of disposal in a container, are sent to a grinder and recycled, so that container waste is reduced. A new project about better utilization of energy in the Tool department, resulted in the purchase of a cooling machine, which in 2023 must ensure the production area and all the machines get a uniform temperature, and which, when it is put into operation in mid-2023, will be able to send around 702,000 kwh back for Ans Fjernvarme (approx. 40 households' annual consumption). The project is waiting for Ans Fjernvarme to establish a line that can receive the capacity. The wiring will be started around March 2023.
Several exciting projects have become a reality in 2022 and several new customers have been added. We have had both turnkey solutions with everything from the manufacture of complicated tools to injection molding of advanced plastic components for use in industry, and projects where we have taken over the customer's tools and managed everything from injection molding to packaging/packing and sending to the retail trade.
2022 unfortunately turned into a year with a useless war, inflation and high energy prices, which also affected Unika with raw material shortages and increased costs for materials and energy. We have tried to help people in need, by providing a home to a handful of Ukrainian refugees in a detached house, which came with the purchase of a new adjacent parcel. The refugees could move into a furnished, equipped and heated house (Ejvind Johansen was responsible for furnishing with the help of sponsorships from the town's local businesses – BIG THANKS FOR THAT). When it became possible to employ refugees, several of them got a job at Unika, so we have done everything we could to help at least a handful.
Now we are looking forward to the fact that 2023 will kick into high gear and that the world will stabilize and we look forward to being able to initiate new exciting projects and strengthen our good relations with existing customers and gain many new satisfied customers.
